An introduction to
Yarm Town Council
In August 2025 a new town council was formed. This was the culmination of 11 people coming together and forming Yarm Independent Group. All candidates went into an election to win seats on the council. The campaign was collectively ran by all candidates with their motto being to serve the people and businesses of Yarm to make the town an amazing place to be. Also stating that there was no room on the council for politics, Yarm comes first before anything else. In an unprecedented result, all 11 candidates were voted in as the next Yarm Town Council – a resounding success for the candidates and for Yarm.
Since that time all councillors have been working extremely hard to look at the areas that the council is responsible for and are enjoying moving everything forward. Rest assured this will continue and will help to make Yarm a great place to live, work and visit. We would like to ask everyone associated with Yarm to work with us with enthusiasm and positivity.

YARM FAIR - have your say!
Yarm Town Council would like to reach out to all residents and businesses within the TS15 and TS16 areas for your views on the future of Yarm Fair.
Yarm Fair is delivered by The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain (Northern Section) with support from Yarm Town Council and Stockton on Tees Borough Council. This year SBC, in the current climate and increased operational costs, have withdrawn their financial support for the fair. Therefore, The Showmen’s Guild are faced with the choices of:
- Cancel the fair
- Increase the cost to you on the rides
- Extend the fair opening by an extra half a day to cover the increased costs
Yarm Town Council are very much in favour of retaining Yarm’s heritage and keeping this important historic event for the town. However, as this is also your town, the residents and businesses should have a say in this request from The Showmen’s Guild.
We are asking you, if you would support The Showman’s Guild application for an extension of the fair into the Sunday afternoon, from 12noon – 5:00pm. Please note that the High Street would reopen by 9.00pm on the Sunday evening.
SBC have prepared a survey to gauge your support for an extension. The survey asks a simple question. Would you, or would you not, support an extension of the fair into the Sunday afternoon?

For those who are not able to fill in the survey online, paper copies of the survey will be available within Yarm Library. The last day to fill in the survey will be Wednesday 3nd September.

Yarm High Street sits at the heart of the town’s day-to-day life, bringing together a strong sense of community with a lively mix of independent businesses, places to eat and drink, and familiar local landmarks. Set close to the River Tees and shaped by centuries of history, it remains a place where residents and visitors can enjoy the character of Yarm while supporting the town’s local economy. Throughout the year the High Street also becomes a focal point for community occasions, helping to make Yarm a great place to live, work and visit.

Community Grants
Community Grants are available for any charities or community groups that could benefit from some help. We are always happy to hear from people that run these groups because our community is very important to us. If your organisation or charity has plans that would help people and the community and would benefit from for financial help that would be put to good use, please fill in the application form and send to us for consideration. Grants would normally be up to £500 but consideration would be given to larger amounts if worthwhile. To qualify for a grant the application has to benefit the community of Yarm.
Monthly Community Award
Do you know someone that deserves recognition? We believe there are a great many unsung hero’s that help so much to make our town the wonderful place that it is. Our Mayor, Jake Taylor will be awarding someone each month with the Community Award. This will be given to someone that has gone above and beyond, brought joy to people or just given their time freely to people or the community. As long as the person either lives in Yarm or is helping in Yarm, they would be eligible. The monthly winners will be presented with an award by the Mayor in The Town Hall. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
